Wythe Hotel Brooklyn Elopement | Giorgi+Ben

Aussies hold a special place in my heart. Super chill, not afraid to break with tradition, and know how to have a proper drink. And thanks to the magic of the internet, Giorgi and Ben are the fourth Australian couple I’ve had the pleasure to photograph in NYC. What I will remember most about Giorgi and Ben is how much they enjoy each other’s company. They’ve been together for nearly 9 years and bring out the best in each other. Cheers you two.

Stylish New York City Elopement | Karlena+Tom

Karlena and Tom planned a big Australian wedding and then they decided to call the whole thing off, opting instead for a stylish New York City elopement. Somehow a large wedding just didn’t feel like they were being true to themselves. We’ve all been there! Somehow in the excitement of planning a dream wedding, it’s easy to get lost in the details of what color the table cloths should be, who to invite, buffet or plated, or whether or not you should have round tables or long, rectangular Tuscan style tables (sorry, Mom!). So Karlena and Tom decided to completely change things up and opted to have the most intimate wedding.

While the two originally were drawn to San Francisco’s City Hall, they chose New York City since it was a place they’d always wanted to visit. And boy, was I in for a surprise when somehow they listened to my suggestion of making things even more personal by hiring an officiant and getting hitched on a rooftop overlooking the city. With Bettina booked as their officiant (a fellow Aussie herself!) and the lovely people at the SIXTY SoHo Hotel, everything was in place. And while their families weren’t there physically, their presence was definitely felt. Karlena’s mom made her the delicate paper flowers and those little corks belonged to Karlena’s grandma from her wedding day many years ago – so sweet next the newlyweds new shiny cork.

Karlena and Tom, you are two of the classiest, kindest souls I’ve met in this crazy ol’ town. Thank you for trusting me with your day. And I sure hope the next time you come to NYC you have better luck catching cabs. Goes to show even a wedding dress won’t help you hail a taxi any faster.

This wedding was featured on Refinery29.

Nomad Hotel Elopement Inspiration | Annie+Dom

It’s no secret that these two love fine dining and bubble baths. So what did I do to secure two beautiful married people that I could trick into being my models? I bribed them with a free night at the NoMad Hotel in exchange for getting all dolled up in their own wedding attire from last year. Worked like a charm.

As a wedding photographer, I love the unexpected and that each and every wedding is different. A different story for me to tell in images. But earlier this year, I wanted a creative outlet and chance to photograph a type of wedding I hadn’t had the opportunity to be a part of yet…an elopement. So I dreamt up my perfect elopement based on the hip NoMad Hotel. And just as it had many months before during their engagement shoot, it rained on the day of the shoot…a styled shoot has no better weather luck than a real wedding. But the sun came out just in time for our sweet “ceremony” – and no, my husband is not a real officiant [but he sure does look cute up there!].

And funny enough, a month after I planned the shoot, my dream became a reality when I received an email from a real Australian couple looking to elope in NYC…and who wrote their vows on a note to each other, just as I had Annie and Dom do for fun. Crazy, right?

Big thanks to Annie and Dom for trusting my vision and for putting up with the confused texts from Annie’s mom as to why they appeared to be getting married again without being invited. HA!
